Fare Thee Well Shakespeare

Day 41. This afternoon we saw our final play – a comedy called Scapin – at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, Utah. And then we hit the road again for our 5 hour trek home.

In the spirit of Shakespeare, we were “loathe to leave” the Festival City. But, our time had come. We were able to see four of the six Summer shows: Mary Stuart, Les Miserables, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Scapin. All fabulous, amazing and just insert-your-own-superlative-here! The USF will produce two awesome shows this Fall – Stones In His Pockets, and Hamlet. We are hoping to be able to come back down to see those! We’ve never come in the Fall. That is something the festival has added in just the past few years after they were able to build the beautiful Randal M. Jones (indoor) Theater across the theater from the Adam’s Memorial (outdoor Globe replica) Theater.

Looking forward to weighing in our our regular scale at home today and comparing the numbers. Today’s the last day of drops. We will start our 3 days of final VLCD without drops tomorrow, and then transition on Sunday into Phase 3 of Round 1 upping our calories dramatically. I’m looking forward to that! Of course, there will not be any starches or sugar allowed – that’s a given – but it will be nice to eat a lot more protein, and introduce some dairy again.

As I’ve mentioned in my two past posts, coming to the Utah Shakespeare Festival has been a tradition for my family for nearly 5 decades. For me personally, I saw my very first play, MACBETH, at age 6 in 1973, and I’ve been coming and enjoying plays every year since then. Now I bring my own children, and in the future, we will bring our grandchildren. Hopefully this tradition will continue from generation to generation. The Utah Shakespeare Festival is an amazing experience. There is a special feeling in Cedar City, the “Festival City” during the summer season. It’s a spirit of joy and camaraderie and celebration. If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience it, and you can get the chance – GO!! You’re in for a memorable and magical experience!
