One Day More

July 24, 2012 by UtahMan&Wife

Day 40. Today’s theme applies to our Family Vacation, our hCG round 1, our Utah Shakespeare Festival adventure, and a very catchy song from the knock-out matinee performance of Les Miserables that we got to see this afternoon! (because not all shows at this festival are actually “Shakespearean”) 🙂

We got to do some sight seeing this morning and drove up the nearby canyon to visit the incredibly beautiful Cedar Breaks National Monument. We are really having a most excellent time!
We think that it’s really important when you are on a “weight loss journey” not to forget that you are really on a “life journey” and it’s all much more meaningful when you GET OUT THERE and LIVE LIFE! Here are some photos from our fun day of LIVING!

Driving up the canyon from Cedar City, Utah we spied these beautiful cliffs

From this overlook you can see Zions National Park in the distance

Our family enjoying the beautiful sights and sun at Cedar Breaks Monument Park

These nice park rangers had telescopes that allowed us to see spots, flares and prominences on the sun! It was really cool! They explained that the largest prominence we could see was 10 times the size of EARTH! Whoa.

We got to see the sold-out matinee performance of Les Miserables today, and it was a knock-out show! The cast, set, music and story was awesome! Wife cried. UtahMan may or may not have been “misty eyed” at the end…(ok, yeah, he cried)

Day 40 Stats

Utah Man

Starting Weight: 249.4 lbs
Highest Load Weight: 254.0 lbs
Yesterday’s Weight: 218.6 lbs
Today’s Weight: 219.2 – up + 0.6 lb

Pre-load weight loss -30.2 lbs; post-load weight loss -34.8 lbs

Using a brand new scale (per my infamous “snafu”) introduced a wrinkle in this morning’s weigh-in. This is pretty much the only time I’ve ever gained. So, I’m not sure if it is the new scale, or if it is because I didn’t drink enough water yesterday. Either way, I’m trying not to obsess over it. We will be home soon enough and I’ll get to weigh on our regular scale and compare. I’m loving the trip, the plays are great, and it’s fun to just hang out with the family. We’ve been able to stay POP on vacation using just a small refrigerator and microwave equipped in our hotel room, and bringing our food scale and Ninja blender. Overall, I think we’ve done really well.

Utah Wife

Starting Weight: 187.2 lbs
Highest Load Weight: 192.8 lbs
Yesterday’s Weight: 170.8 lbs
Today’s Weight: 171.2 – Up -0.4

Totals:  Pre-load weight loss 15.9 lbs  / Post-load loss -21.5 lbs

Well, like UtahMan mentioned, we are using an entirely different scale and so an accurate weight is suspect. We have been completely POP on this trip and today we both made sure we drank a LOT of extra water. For dinner we decided to take the kids to Sizzler. We ordered a 7 oz. grilled steak with no sides. We cut it in half and shared. We each made a large salad (consisting of only lettuce, cucumbers, onions and a little tomato). It was all a ridiculous waste of money for the amount of food that we consumed, and unfortunately the Sizzler in this city left MUCH to be desired (i.e. Epic Fail). But, on the pro side, the steak we ordered was incredibly delicious (yeah, it probably had much too much fat in it because it tasted so good)…but, oh well. We did the best that we could. Hoping tomorrow’s weigh-in will not be too tragic. Drinking all of that extra water and being perfectly POP all day should count for something, right?

Tonight we saw “The Merry Wives of Windsor” in the outdoor Randal Jones theater – a fun romp. Tomorrow we get to linger a little longer in the city to see one more play, the matinee performance of a comedy called Scapin. Then we make the long road trip home again, and we go back to “the grind”. Ah well, such is life. We can’t wait to return to the Festival City!

P.S. Happy Birthday, Utah! Today is our Statehood Holiday Celebration. (we missed all the fireworks in order to see the play, but we could hear them in the distance)

Wow, Sizzlers is still around? I haven’t seen one on the East Coast in many years.
