Day 4 HcG: VLCD What Do We Eat?

Our fourth day of HcG “P2” (Phase 2) is also our FIRST day of eating the VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet). We are headed toward doing a full 40 day round, so we will be eating 500 calories a day of a very strict regimen for the next 36 days or so. We actually will end this phase on July 24th which is PIONEER DAY – Utah’s Birthday, which is a state holiday [there will be fireworks on our last day of P2] 🙂

As outlined in our first HcG Introduction post, even though we are only eating 500 calories per day, we are technically getting a supposed 2500-3000 calorie bonus in our blood stream as the HcG releases all those icky stubborn unhealthy fats in our bodies.

As such, it is reported that HcG dieters don’t get hungry. We were skeptical of this.

Here’s a nice slideshow of a P2 Food list  – [not exactly the same as what we were given by the company we ordered our drops from, but close]. As you will see, it’s pretty simple and basic. There is no sugar, no alcohol, no grains (2 small melba toast/wasa crackers per day), and nothing processed. We eat lean and “clean”. There are also only specific fruits, veggies and meats allowed during this phase.

Our planning and time investment on Saturday to get ready for today’s VLCD really paid off, and we will definitely make this a Saturday habit. We had pre-measured and pre-cooked each of our meats for the week, and then put them in ziplock baggies in the freezer. Last night, we simply picked out what we would be taking to work the next day, and placed the meat choice in the refrigerator to thaw out overnight. The diet is simple and easy.

Breakfast: There isn’t really a breakfast. You can have coffee, tea or water and if you like, a fruit (you only get 2 fruit per day). Since we don’t drink coffee or tea and we weren’t feeling hungry, we just filled up our water jugs and waited to eat later. Wife actually found some herbal tea and made a mug at work with a packet of Stevia, which she found very calming and refreshing.

We excited to try our friend Valerie’s recipe for lunch which Wife pre-chopped:

HcG Chicken Chop Salad

3.5 oz cooked chicken breast chopped
3.5 oz celery chopped
1 apple chopped
Juice of 1/2 a Lemon
Sprinkle fresh cinnamon and 1 packet Stevia
Stir everything together and seal in an airtight container

This made a HUGE portion. It was very filling, I loved the crunchiness and the different flavors, and it was something quick and easy to take to work.

HcG P2 Chicken Chop Salad Recipe – My First P2 VLCD Lunch

WATER, WATER and more WATER is the name of the game. You can’t drink too much. We need to drink at least 1 Gallon (16 Cups) per day.

Dinner

Thanks to Valerie (again), we were able to make a delicious dinner super fast and easy.

1 frozen individually wrapped Tilapia Filet (buy in bulk at Costco)

Place on a plate and microwave on High for 3 minutes. All the goodness is locked inside the plastic, and there’s no mess. Allow it to cool at least 1-2 min. before clipping open so you don’t get burned. Squeeze 1/2 lemon’s juice, and sprinkle salt, pepper and seasonings to taste

Asparagus, steamed (1 stalk = 3 calories, so basically, eat as much as you wish)

1 Fruit (never the same fruit you had earlier in the day)

1 Melba toast / Grissini / Wasa Wafer

1 Tb. Milk (sometime in the day, you need to incorporate this)

Our calories came in at right around 460 for the day. We need to try to get up to 500 tomorrow. We never thought it would be hard, but it really is a bit challenging since veggies and fruit have nearly no calories, and we are eating small low-calorie meat portions.

All in all, it was a great day. Neither of us had a ton of hunger. It got a little uncomfortable right before lunch time, but we felt full and satisfied throughout the day, and I’m sure drinking a ton of water definitely made a difference. We are VERY hopeful that tomorrow’s weigh-in will see the numbers go down on the scale! – UtahMan & Wife
